Activities
Try water sports
In the summer you have access to water sports like windurf or water ski. There is a water- sports center on Lambes beach. In Finikounda there is also a dive center for those who want to discover the undersea. If you like, you can take boat trips or you can even rent a boat from Finikounda to go to Sapienza Island (15-20 minutes by speed boat) or, you can explore more and go to the Marathi Beach , in the bay of Finikounda, or , further, to the spectacular bay of Voidokilia.
Explore the Mani Peninsula
A good way to explore the area all year round, not only in the summer, is either on foot or by bike. There is a wide network of paths, tracks, and roads crisscrossing the area. There is also a bike rental in Finikounda. Mani is not the easiest destination – you’ll need to do plenty of driving and walking. But here you’ll discover a fabulous and wild land. Surrounded by the Mediterranean, Mani has a culture of its own. Moreover, Mani is famous for the stone towers that cover its area.
Discover marvelous landscapes
The landscapes are wild and stunning. The rocky mountains meet the big blue sea in what could be a marvellous canvas painting. If you would like to visit some traditional stone tower-house places, Areopoli and Vathia are good choices to do that. In Areopoli you will find some nice restaurants and cafes. On your way to Areopoli you can stop and take a stroll in Kardamyli , Stoupa and Agios Nikolaos. You will find very nice places to eat or just have a coffee or drink. Leaving Areopoli, the next place worthy to stop is Diros Caves. A number of caves, with most known the Alepotrypa and Vlychada ones, can be explored by taking a boat. Impressive stalagmites and stalactites from the Neolithic period, a 6 meters lake and two adult human skeletons are the landmarks of these caves.
Stroll along the port
Going further away, you can spend the night in Gerolimenas. The name, meaning “old port”, describes this one perfectly. A small, charming, old harbor is the ideal place to relax. After that, passing trough Vathia, you will reach the most southern point of the peninsula, Porto Kagio, a very small and peaceful village placed “ at the end of the world”. Be sure you stop for a coffee in one sea-side caffe or restaurant. On your way back to Finiki you can stop and have lunch in Ghytio, a small sea side city.
